Is this calculator a fatwa?
No. It provides educational guidance from the facts entered. A qualified scholar should confirm the heirs, any impediments to inheritance and the applicable juristic method. A legal professional should confirm how the distribution can be implemented in the relevant country.
What amount should I enter as the estate?
Enter the gross value of assets that legally and beneficially belonged to the deceased. The calculator then deducts entered funeral costs, debts and a valid bequest. Ownership disputes, jointly held assets, pensions, trusts, insurance and matrimonial property may need legal advice before a number can be entered reliably.
Are debts paid before inheritance?
Yes. Enforceable debts and estate obligations are settled before the heirs' shares are distributed. The Quranic inheritance verses refer to distribution after bequests and debts, while scholars also determine the proper order between estate expenses, debts and bequests.
How much can be left by wasiyyah?
The ordinary maximum is one third of the estate remaining after funeral costs and debts. Less is often preferable. A bequest to somebody who is already an Islamic heir normally requires the consent of the other adult heirs after death.
Why does a male sometimes receive twice a female?
The two-to-one rule applies in defined pairings at the same degree, such as a son with a daughter or a full brother with a full sister when they inherit as residuaries. It is not a universal rule for every male and female heir. In some cases women and men receive equal shares, a woman receives more, or a woman inherits while a more distant man is excluded.
What does “blocked” mean?
A blocked heir is excluded because a closer or stronger heir is present. For example, a son excludes a son's son, and a father excludes a paternal grandfather. The calculator keeps entered blocked relatives in the explanation so the reason is visible.
What are awl and radd?
Awl proportionally reduces prescribed shares when their starting fractions exceed the whole estate. Radd returns a surplus to eligible prescribed-share heirs when no residuary is available. Schools and modern laws differ on whether a spouse participates in radd.
Which Sunni methodology does the calculator use?
It is majority-oriented. It uses the approach associated with Zayd ibn Thabit for a paternal grandfather competing with siblings and explains recognised exceptions. Cases where the four schools or modern laws materially differ are flagged instead of hiding the choice.
Does the calculator handle adopted or stepchildren?
They do not automatically take the prescribed share of a biological child. They may benefit through a valid bequest, lifetime gift or another lawful arrangement. Adoption and legal parentage rules can also have civil-law consequences, so obtain tailored advice.
What about grandchildren through a daughter?
They are classed among distant kindred rather than descendants through a son in classical faraid. Their treatment differs between schools and legal systems. The current calculator does not silently assign them a share and such a case should be reviewed.
Can an unborn child inherit?
A child conceived before the deceased's death may affect the distribution if later born alive. The estate should not be finally distributed until the child's position is properly addressed. Seek qualified advice.
What if two relatives died in the same accident?
The order of death can alter both estates. If it cannot be established, special rules apply and local law may be decisive. Calculate neither estate as an ordinary case without professional advice.
Does a murderer inherit from the victim?
Homicide can prevent inheritance, but the classifications and legal consequences require a scholar and the relevant court or legal authority. The calculator does not determine criminal facts.
Why is part of the estate labelled “balance requiring review”?
This appears when the entered heirs take a prescribed share but no residuary or eligible non-spouse radd heir receives the remainder. Distant kindred, the public treasury, modern spouse-radd rules and local law may produce different outcomes.
Can I print the result?
Yes. On the results screen choose “Print or save PDF.” The print view includes the estate amount, fractions, percentages, amounts, reasons, warnings and excluded heirs.
